Hypoxia modulates effects of fatty acids on human pancreatic β-cells

Objective: Saturated fatty acids (FAs), e.g. stearic acid (SA), induce apoptosis in pancreatic β-cells while unsaturated FAs, e.g. oleic acid (OA) have nearly no detrimental effect.
